Analysis of the Process Parameters, Post-Weld Heat Treatment and Peening Effects on Microstructure and Mechanical Performance of Ti–Al Dissimilar Laser Weldings

Dissimilar Ti–Al laser weldings are very interesting due to their difficulties in being processed because of the different physical properties alloys and crack formations during cooling solidification. In this study, effect offset defocusing on microstructure, geometry mechanical response 2 mm thick dissimilar AA6061/Ti-6Al-4V welds was analyzed. Moreover, order reduce residual stresses, joints were both heat-treated mechanically treated by ultrasonic peening. The microstructure found be martensitic Ti-6Al-4V fusion zone, columnar dendritic AA6061 zone partially heat-affected zone. Intermetallic compounds based Al–Ti system detected at interface aluminum Both negative higher improved tensile performance welds, mainly reducing amount brittle intermetallic compounds. stress relaxation heat treatment, leading aging martensite increasing size compound, reduced strength ductility joints. On contrary, for treatment effective and, moreover, corrosion resistance.
